Human Angst + Poetry = Words of War

To the outside world, spoken word artist Ezzio Lavarello, AKA "E-Poetry" may appear to conform to societies "rules of life", but as those who have heard his poetry know, his words reveal otherwise. You see for Ezzio those rules represent the root cause of human angst & the catalyst to his poetic revolution for voice.

An Arsenal of Words

With poetry as his weapon & words his ammunition, Ezzio targets his would be oppressor with the aim and precision of a veteran soldier in this, his battle for voice. He writes of love, loss, family, pain & injustice in a manner proclaiming his independence & growing awareness that he is more, that conformity equals loss of voice & identity... breeding mediocrity & carbon copy lives.

A Call to Arms

When he steps to the microphone, his words invite listeners to share in his tale. As he recites his truth, listeners, unaware of the impending literary assault, nod as if affirming his experience to be their own, yet still unconscious of their common oppressor and the words that would soon enlist each as soldiers in his words of war. Calmly, the poet beckons as if a call to arms, recruiting words with the power to hurt or heal as he rallies the unsuspecting troops, recounting his personal journey and exposing raw hidden emotions, the kind most just assume keep safely tucked away.

The Battle Cry

Speaking the language of love, pain & loss, one man confronts his own truth. His words of war now hit closer to home and listeners begin comparing lives. And as the intensity builds, strategy and focus merge into one transforming each word into an impassioned battle cry for humanity.

The Pain of War

As the tempo and oration grow deeper, words are no longer safe and all bets are off. Each verse an explosion of truth turning words into weapons, but these weapons do not kill rather they force each newly enlisted soldier to face themselves... and for some that is a fate worse than death. With each powerful verse, he connects you to his experience and though it may not be yours, the words cut deep exposing flesh and bearing painful wounds common in all human experience and try as you might, in the end you cannot deny that his pain is yours. As Ezzio exits the stage stepping over bodies, surveying the casualties of war, his verse “Poetry is my way of life" comes to mind.

Victory & Casualties

Ezzio's poems all march to the drums of war, but no two are alike. Tempo's ebb and flow but it is his words that change the water level, forcing each soldier to sink or swim. In the end, it is by facing his pain that we can then face our own. Thru his performance, you will understand his war as his story becomes yours. And while his poems may appear somber, the truth is they are actually filled with the hope of a young man pleading for a world where everybody matters.
